Mads Marckmann, MD. Immediately after his graduation in 2020 Mads started his journey into the surgical field. The last 3 years have spawned a Ph.D. thesis focusing on how different devices and materials used in hernia surgery—e.g. suture type, mesh size, robot-assist, and ciNPT—impact postoperative outcomes such as wound complications and quality of life. Mads has published several peer-reviewed articles, presented at international conferences, and last year he won the first ever surgical Ph.D.-cup in Denmark. Currently, Mads is in his first year of formal surgical training while continuing research activity on how to improve and standardize training of robot-assisted hernia surgery for young surgeons. Mads is honored to represent young aspiring AW surgeons as part of this year’s AWRE in London.
