
John is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Wall surgeon at the Academic Department of Upper GI and Abdominal Wall Surgery at North Devon District Hospital, an Associate Professor at the University of Exeter Medical School, Senior Investigator Fellow at the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre, and Director of Science for the British Hernia Society.
John went to University in Nottingham and trained in Surgery in Oxford, where he was an Honorary Clinical Lecturer, Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Informatics, and Lecturer in Clinical Medicine. He has a PhD in Genomic and Clinical Informatics, and is a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery in Abdominal Wall Surgery
As well as complex and minimally invasive hernia surgery, John specialises in treating chronic pain after hernia surgery. His research interests are focussed on preventing and treating chronic pain and improving function after abdominal wall surgery.
